Her Lady of the Night
- A Moon’s Lullaby -
by Vittorio Parri
Is this love?
The silence between a man and his desire?
I always had a fascination for the night. That moment when the world turns silent when the washing rays of the sun set to rest and leave space for the complexity of multiform shadows, tired limbs, and unresting bodies dancing, and singing and losing themselves in a space where nobody can see them.
There I always find my way to release my thoughts, to let my mind wander through the land of what I thought was lost, transported by the necessity of untangling and putting to rest the mass of words, actions and thoughts that bloomed during the day.
There I always find myself dancing alone at the sounds of my own stories, observed only by the silver lights of Her Lady of Darkness: the moon.
-A Moon’s Lullaby-
The lullaby tells the love story of a young man with the lady of the night: the moon.
The Man is at the window, every night looking at his lover in search of himself, lost in the dim lights of the night.
The moon is a prisoner, trapped by the lord of darkness in a loop that does not allow her to love and live freely: forcing her to forget herself like we forget ourselves while we watch her.
The Lullaby
The project started as a way to explore the long-lasting relationship between us and our satellite. The way we have related to it historically and romantically.
In my research, I have looked at the way we represented the moon, from ancient greek mythology, through the modern (bloody) representation of Garcia Lorca in ‘Bodra de Sangre’; passing through the valley of lost things of Ariosto and the Mythologization of Pop culture following the Moon Landing in 1969.
The Project
Air and make-up are by Silvia Gasperi.
The concept is built around the 1930s cabaret scene, focusing on the round shape of the full moon and playing with the ethereal idea of a fluid character, neither male nor female (la Luna/der Mond).
